Clinical Research Services (CRS)



Clinical Research Services (CRS) has dedicated laboratory space for multidisciplinary research focused on human health. Our facilities are located in the 850 PBC (Wexford) building and Arizona Biomedical Collaborative (ABC) building of Phoenix Bioscience Core in Downtown Phoenix. Clinical Research Services (CRS) provides operational support, equipment and core clinical research services. One floor above CRS is the Wet Lab, which houses state-of-the-art equipment for measuring biomarker analytes, -80 C storage space for study biospecimens, and expert staff to run biomarker assays and train study investigators.

Clinical Research Facilities

CRS provides investigators with experienced clinical research staff. Licensed medical providers, radiologic technologists, registered sonographers, certified phlebotomists, research technicians, clinical research coordinators and project management support. Private exam rooms are designed to be flexible and accommodate various research procedures with a Biosafety level 2 approval.


  • Administrative rooms that support community intervention studies, survey, and behavioral research
  • Clinical procedure rooms equipped with sink and approved at a BSL-2 level
  • Metabolic kitchen with two cooking and prep stations, pantry, freezers, refrigerators, and adjacent dining area
  • Medical supervision stations with Advanced Practice Medical Providers available
  • DEXA- GE Lunar iDXA-Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry for Body Composition and Bone Density
  • Cardiovascular, Musculoskeletal, Abdominal and Nerve ultrasound imaging room
  • Resting Metabolic Rate (REE) room
  • Resting and Exercise EKG space
  • Dedicated phlebotomy space for blood collection by venipuncture, IV line or fingerstick
  • Metabolic measurement space using glucose and meal tolerance testing
  • Point of Care equipment for instant analysis of glucose, lactate and HbA1c
  • Stadiometers, Scales and Vitals Cart stations
  • Cardiovascular, Metabolic and Exercise Physiology Lab
  • Fully equipped central processing lab for processing, aliquoting and temporary storage of biospecimens with refrigerator, -20 C freezer, two refrigerated centrifuges, two biosafety cabinets and flushing service sink


Dr. Frank LoVecchio is the Medical Director providing responsive oversight for studies conducted at the 850 PBC and the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative. He has extensive experience and has been an emergency medicine physician, medical toxicologist, and an addiction specialist for over two decades. He is board-certified in Addiction Medicine, Medical Toxicology, Medical Forensics, and Emergency Medicine and has received more than a dozen research and teaching awards. Dr. LoVecchio is the author of more than 200 peer review articles and has given lectures in over 20 countries. He is also a site investigator on seven NIH grants awarded through the Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet), including grants for work on Influenza screening. 

Dr. Frank LoVecchio provides on-site clinical oversight, as well as procedural services for sponsored projects at ASU and community partner sites.
